Meetings open to the public

The following groups have regular meetings which are open to the public at Daiwa Foundation Japan House.

London Sakura-kai

Sakura-kai is an independent study group which started in 1988 with the aim of teaching Japanese. All the teachers are volunteers, some qualified and others teaching for the first time. Ohara School of Ikebana, England Chapter

Ohara School of Ikebana, England Chapter has been enjoying the friendships created through the group since 1980. The Chapter holds monthly workshops (normally 1st Wednesday of the month) at the Daiwa Foundation, which can also be joined online. Members of the Chapter participate in flower shows and exhibitions. There are qualified teachers (Masters) living in various parts of  the British Isles. For further information or enquiries, please contact ohara.ikebana.uk@gmail.com.

Ichiyo School of Ikebana

The Ichiyo School of Ikebana was founded in 1937. It uses a simplified and systematic way of teaching, with the encouragement of personal interpretation which enables students to make progress within a comparatively short period of time. Classes are not currently held at the moment but will start sometime in April  2020 for any level. If you already have experience of Ikebana and are not a beginner, we run friendly study groups open to both Ichiyo & non-Ichiyo members 3-4 times a year.  If you are interested in taking a lesson, please contact Seiko Mizuta-Spencer, secretary of Ichiyo School of Ikebana UK at ichiyoikebanauk@gmail.com or for study group inquiry, Kay Howard , Study group secretary howardkay@btinternet.com

Arranging Meetings at Daiwa Foundation Japan House

Daiwa Foundation Japan House provides facilities in central London to support UK-Japan exchange activities. It has meeting rooms available from Monday to Friday, 9:30am-5:00pm (excluding bank holidays) and is conveniently located near Baker Street station (Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City, Bakerloo and Jubilee lines).

If you belong to an organization/group involved in UK-Japan relations or are planning an event or short course related to Japan or Japanese culture, please contact the Programme Director, Nana Ota, at office@dajf.org.uk, to discuss how Daiwa Foundation Japan House could accommodate your needs.

There is a small room charge for using Daiwa Foundation Japan House to help cover running costs.
