‘Nihonbashi’, a painting by Daiwa Scholarship alumnus and artist Carl Randall is being included in an exhibition at a museum in Tokyo this month.
The acrylic on canvas painting (73 x 91cm, 2020) was originally commissioned by a private art collector in Japan, who asked Carl to make a painting featuring the ‘Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway’.
To mark the 60th anniversary of its opening, an exhibition of 100 artworks depicting the Expressway has been organised: photography, paintings, prints and contemporary art (including works on loan by prominent artists from museums, such as a painting by Bernard Buffet).
With a total length of approximately 330km, and one million vehicles using the route daily, the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway has become a major transport artery for the city, portrayed in this exhibition by a variety of artists.
Venue: the O Art Museum in Osaki, 2nd Floor, Osaki New City Building 2,
1-6-2 Osaki, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo.
Dates: 15th (Thu) – 21st (Weds) December 2022, 10:00 – 18:30
