Former Daiwa Scholar Eluned Gramich has won the New Welsh Writing Award

Former Daiwa Scholar Eluned Gramich has won the inaugural New Welsh Writing Award which celebrates the finest non-fiction writing (in short form) on the theme of nature and the environment. Her winning essay, Scenes of a Hokkaidan Life, was about her homestay in Hokkaido while on the Daiwa Scholarship programme. It will be published in the summer edition of the New Welsh Review.

Eluned Gramich was presented with her prize at a ceremony in Aberystwyth on 25 February 2015 by the eminent author, naturalist and environmental activist Mark Cocker, who judged the entries alongside magazine editor Gwen Davies. Elaine Ewart came second with Heligoland, An Ecology of Exile and Philip Jones was the runner-up with Waves on the Hydrocarbon Seas of Titan.
