Rebellious Bodies Butoh Festival 2026 - taking place across October and November

Rebellious Bodies Butoh Festival 2026 takes place across October and November, bringing highly inspirational, well-established Japanese butoh artists to UK audiences.

The highlight is two nights at The Place in London (13 and 14 November), including Mother Forest, a once-in-a-lifetime ensemble piece led by the legendary Mitsuyo Uesugi, who trained and performed alongside Kazuo Ohno for decades.

She returns to The Place 46 years after she first danced there on Ohno’s European tour, joined by Makiko Takamatsu, Seiji Tanaka and the duo MUTSUMINEIRO, who bring three generations of butoh lineage together in homage to Ohno.

The festival also includes screenings of Ohno’s Mr. O trilogy in London, a performance and full-day workshop in Newcastle, and a day of butoh in Bangor. Find out more at www.rebelliousbodiesfestival.com
