AI is advancing at an unprecedented pace, and is rapidly being adopted across a range of sectors – in work, in education and in our homes.

According to the OECD (2026), more than one-third of the population in OECD countries used generative AI tools in 2025, underscoring the rapid integration of AI into everyday life. The share of firms reporting AI adoption also increased substantially between 2023 and 2025, with many of these reporting improvements in their performance and productivity.

Some researchers even put a 50% probability on AI outperforming humans across all tasks within the next 45 years (Grace et al., 2017). But the exact timeline remains uncertain, and the full impact of this technology’s integration into different aspects of our lives and societies is still at the experimental stage.

As the development and adoption of AI tools continue, in this year’s Annual Seminar Series we examine the current state of AI, exploring how far AI tools have been adopted and integrated across various sectors, as well as the challenges involved, and what society may look like in the near future.
