Do you like sushi?  Would you like to make sushi yourself?

Well, in that case, join us! We will show you how to make delicious and healthy nigiri-sushi at home.

Erika Henderson from Café Yukari gave audience a brief history of sushi and show you how to prepare sushi rice. Cooking proper rice and mixing it with the right amount of vinegar, sugar, and salt is the first step in making successful sushi. Then Erika and Yukari Henderson showed them some good sushi recipes with easy-to-obtain supermarket ingredients, including vegetarian varieties.

Erika Henderson

Erika Henderson is the manager of Cafe Yukari. She was born in Japan, attended two International Schools in Tokyo (British and ISSH), and moved to the UK at the age of 18 to study neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh. She then took an MSc at the University of Kent. She worked at the Meteorological Office as an IT programmer for three years. When her parents started a family business, she decided to join it. Her appreciation for food comes from living in Japan for 16 years during her childhood. She is interested in various tricks that make ordinary food taste good. She is a part-time biscuit-decorating instructor on weekdays, demonstrating various fun designs that can be done on biscuits.

Yukari Henderson

Yukari Henderson is the owner of Cafe Yukari. After studying at a fashion college, she worked as a pattern designer. Her hobby was discovering tasty food, so much so that she spent all her salary eating out. Her other hobby is playing classical music, and in 2014, she obtained a BMus at City, University of London. Three years later, Cafe Yukari opened in front of Kew Gardens station. Her cafe serves dishes such as udon/soba noodles and sushi, as well as the finest Japanese tea. She aims to introduce the authentic taste of Japan to local people. The cafe space also hosts a variety of classical/contemporary music concerts.
