The Diary of Charles Holme’s 1889 visit to Japan and North America with Mrs Lasenby Liberty’s Photographic Record
A key figure in Europe’s art world in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and founder of the ‘The Studio’ magazine, Charles Holme was a significant disseminator of Japanese art and art goods in the West, notably through his business association with the designer Dr Christopher Dresser.

This seminar will look at the underlying themes that continue to make Japanese gardens so appealing, and how one designer in the UK, Maureen Busby, used Japanese aesthetics in creating stunning designs appropriate for our very different settings and architecture.
